See a list of conferences, workshops, and training I have attended and my reflections.

WestCAST

In February 2025 I attended the Western Canada Association of Student Teachers’ annual conference at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia. This conference was such a valuable learning experience for me. I had the opportunity to hear from educational researchers such as Dr. Gillian Judson about her work on Imaginative Ecological Education as well as fellow teacher candidates share about their experience of becoming educators. Through hands-on workshops, I also learned practical ways to engage in concept-based planning and inclusive education.

DANCEPL3Y

In September 2024, I had the opportunity to participate in an Indigenous DANCEPL3Y workshop with Roxane Letterlough. DANCEPL3Y is an educational resource that integrates physical literacy with music and dance from Indigenous communities across Canada. As a non-Indigenous teacher, I often wonder what it will look like practically for me to Indigenize my teaching practice. Participating in this program was a valuable experience for me because it demonstrated how Indigenous pedagogy, culture, and traditions can be incorporated into the BC curriculum in a meaningful, genuine, and culturally appropriate way. To me, Indigenous DANCEPL3Y represents how Indigenous pedagogy and a Eurocentric curriculum can work together to provide a rich and engaging learning experience for both students and teachers. After participating in this training, I feel so much more confident about how to incorporate Indigenous pedagogy into my own teaching practice.

Plan to Protect

Plan to Protect is a service that provides abuse prevention and protection training for organizations serving children, youth, and vulnerable adults. I am certified through Plan to Protect, which means that I have completed training of the highest standard to minimize risk when working with children, youth, and vulnerable adults. Completing this training was valuable for me because I learned best practices for preventing and protecting children from physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Knowing and following these best practices ensures that I can provide a safe environment for students in my care.
